Google Hire another tool in Google’s graveyard. Google Hire is a recruiting platform (Applicant Tracking System) that uses AI to make the hiring process smarter, faster for recruiters. Understand why Google is shutting down its Google Hire?
Benefits of GoogleHire
The main target audience for Google Hire was small to medium-sized businesses to help them manage their interview process and candidate pipeline. So they kept a very easy and simple user interface. Some of the users even claimed that it’s as easy as using Gmail.
APIs and Integration with Namely, Sapling, etc.
Managing the entire lifecycle of recruitment and improving the experience of the new hires is quite a tedious job. But Google Hire had this sorted with its APIs and Integration with:
- Namelyprovides world-class HR, payroll, timekeeping, and benefit administration solutions to mid-sized companies effortlessly while staying in compliance with national, state, and local regulations.
- Sapling is a new kind onboarding and HR platform which automates HR workflows and empowers People Operations teams with connectivity, data, and insights on their global workforce
- AppogeeHR is dedicated to providing easy to use online HR, Leave, and OKR (Objective key results) software. It enables employee self-service to HR records and policies; HR record keeping for compliance and HR process workflow through checklists and alerting.
- Zenefits is 100% cloud-based which aims to deliver a seamless employee experience through applications including HR, Benefits, Payroll, Time & Attendance, Performance Management, Compliance, and more.
Use of Machine Learning
Features like Candidate Discovery in Hire apply machine learning to help businesses identify previously considered candidates in their existing databases that may be a perfect fit for a new role.
Was Google really interested in Hire?
Hire was acquired by Google when it bought the start-up Bebop in 2015. Bebop was co-founded by Diane Greene and its acquisition was seen as a way to get Diane Greene as their cloud division head. However, Greene left her post as Google’s cloud chief in early 2019, being replaced by Oracle veteran Thomas Kurian.
Why is it shutting down
With all the promises it made, it didn’t offer a lot to stand out of the already crowded market of ATS. With Google Hire, it projected to be at $2.6 billion by 2026, which might seem exciting for a startup but for a company that generates billions every year seems an understatement.
Google never confirmed its reasons regarding why it is shutting hire within 22 months of it getting acquired but in an email to its client it says:
While Hire has been successful, we’re focusing our resources on other products in the Google Cloud portfolio. We are deeply grateful to our customers, as well as the champions and advocates who have joined and supported us along the way.
Google Hire’s customer

What about its existing customers
Though Google Hire didn’t axe immediately it gave its customer a year period if they wanted to switch, and as a sweet gesture, it agreed to keep it running for no additional fees.
