What is Disability Leave?
It is a leave of absence that may be granted to an employee who is unable to perform the essential functions of their position— because of their medical condition. It is not a type of accrued time off but rather an approved leave of absence provided as accommodation.
Conditions for the granting of it
According to the All- India Service Regulations, the leave may be granted when:
- Special disability leave may be granted to a member of the Service who suffers [a disability] as a result of the risk of office or special risk of office.
- The period of leave granted shall be such as may be certified by a medical board to be necessary and shall not be extended except on a certificate from a medical board.
